Issue: Workstation Agents not Connecting to Server
Product: Pearl Echo
Applies to: All Builds

Background:

If you have Pearl Echo Management set to On and there are no managed workstations connecting to the Pearl Echo Server, you may receive the following email warning:

The Pearl Echo Management State is set to On but no workstations are connected to the Pearl Echo Server.

Solution:

This situation can occur if
  • You have not yet installed the Pearl Echo Workstation Software on any of your managed computers (yes, it happens)
  • The Pearl Echo listening service, echoComm.exe, is not responding
  • One or more firewalls have been configured to block the Pearl Echo Workstation software from communicating with the Pearl Echo Server software

To check if the Pearl Echo listening service is responding, run the server’s task manger and locate the echoComm.exe process. While the task manger is running, turn Pearl Echo Management Off from the Set Security Status menu in the Pearl Echo Administration Console. The echoComm.exe process should terminate after a few moments. If it does not, you will need to reboot your server and re-enable the service by turning Pearl Echo Management back On from the Set Security Status menu. If the echoComm.exe process does terminate normally, re-enable the service by turning Pearl Echo Management back On from the Set Security Status menu and check your firewall settings on your server, workstations and in between. For more on firewall settings, see Article 1: Echo Workstation Blocked by Microsoft Firewall Settings.
